Freedom of Movement – Episode 6

July 24th, 2009

Whether it’s being stuck in a jury room with 12 Angry Men deciding if the accused should be sent to prison, or being arrested and imprisoned on a trumped up charge for years as In the Name of the Father, Tomas takes a look at the idea of Freedom of Movement in the Movies.

Other films include The Life of David Gale with Kevin Spacey, Disturbia (a Rear Window modernization) , and lastly, the forthcoming (Peter Jackson-produced and spectacular-looking) District 9.

District 9 is based on short film is about aliens landing in South Africa and becoming confined to a specific area and forced to work.

Looks like reliable source of good film recommendations!!
“District 9″ looks really interesting (I don’t think it will disappoint visually). Independence Day had great air battles and maybe this will have less cheese?

About the selection of movies – don’t know if “Blindness” (Fernando Meirelles) wouldn’t fit in there somewhere… somehow ;)

  2. Yesterday I finishes seeing the final chapter of “Prison Break” (deep analysis mine je je) speaking to lose the freedom by false imputations (Pathetic end, only good the death of MS).

I believe that the freedom not necessarily is related to being in a prison. I cannot not relate the word “freedom” very intensely to wonderful films like “Seoul Contre Tous” (Gaspar Noé) “American Beauty” (Sam Mendes) or “Falling down” Joel Schumacher where we can see like the urgent necessity of real freedom far from happy stable but nonhappy a life daily or under parameters falsely imposed but not questioned, finishes prevailing and leaving our inside without we pruned to dominate it and without mattering if that implies our life or the one of others. The true idea of freedom arises from these films, generally when Hollywood speaks of “freedom” as all speech of another thing, the idea of “the world against my” the false position, the return of final nut, “cannot be trusted anybody” foment the conspirative idea of the paranoid and with himself the isolation.

A day a cinema professor I ask myself, “you know so that it is sold pochoclos in the room and the light goes out before the film begins?” In order to return it employee from its own anxieties, to return it vulnerable and to be able to enter its interior, far from to free to the spectator of its imagination the function of the cinema it is to deprive of freedom.

PS. What happens with Tomas? Is really seen it excited in the beginning, please no drugs in the set. je je.
PS 2. I do not finish understanding the format of the program, at that it aims, I believe that on the basis of that a true criticism can be done. :)

    Hi Tomas,
    Happy birthday!

  5. CJ says:

Happy birthday, Tomas! Hope it’s a good one.

I saw In The Name Of The Father a few years ago. I think I remember it being good, but I need to see it again.

District 9 looks good. I just hope it’s not going to be too hamfisted with the obvious allegorical Apartheid stuff.

Hey. Best for today, Tomas. Having seen the some of the forthcoming episodes I’m really blown away by what’s coming up. Really great to see you guys here at the start and be here myself.

Juli, You know if you register for viddler.com (are you already) you can post a video as comment. You can really post a full look at stuff yourself. I have a feeling coming for the “making of films” side you would have a different perspective which would be really interesting.

Same with everyone. Hell I might do it myself!

    Anyway, HB to T.

    Rob.

  7. Paris says:

Happy Birthday Tomas, have a great day and a fantastic year! Paris

  9. CJ says:

I forgot to mention The Shawshank Redemption.

    Trailer: http://bit.ly/185NX3

Deals with a lot of comparisons between life inside prison vs. the ‘freedom’ of life on the outside, and how people cope with both.

  10. Tomas says:

    Thanks Becki!

  11. Tomas says:

    @CJ and @Paris and @Rob: Thanks!!

  12. Happy birthday to you for Takings! (the fried one) They say that the cancerianos are “jodidos” ja ja does not seem but… one does not know to know them it.
Him gift a virtual “mate”! (A local drink of Argentina)

That beautiful it is to dawn reading your Rob words, I am romantic an incurable sorry I cannot avoid it. Today wake up and listening “Speed me death” as all the mornings and a succession of images struck my head, among them a Woman with highest white hair, an umbrella in the hand, change of plane to a man dressed rabbit that begins to surround it in extensive white strips like bandage and walking by the prairie a black man with a hat(Michael Hall) in black gloves in the hands and flowers… To who those flowers goes destined?

Oh that beautiful… I do not see the hour to write that script of length film, a species of fable to the best Alicia style in the country of the wonders but with ” Speed me towards death… ”

I saw the trailer of Tim Burton de Alicia and… it disappoints… in visual matter has some things that paint interesting but… oh God, is Alicia, gives as much for that history…

Sometimes I believe that as much passion is going to kill to me, if it is going to kill to me that he is fast and not slowly “I don’t want to die slowly” like tell Rob.

In the video of Speed I feel that only it portrays the infernal part but of song, in search to recreate a onirica atmosphere, throws to me towards hell, but hell is all a mystic of dream/that has Speed me that it is pending to reflect visually or not… itself in edition process also. It contents per moments and it does not content for anything in others, thus it is the art, thus it is the life.

I do not know that vestibule videos I am going to enter!

    Good week people!!
I am going away to fly.

    Buena semana gente,
    me voy a volar.

  14. Oh God, is a fright my English ja ja, in August I begin to study ja luckily ja I hope improves thus I can improve the communication.

Pd.By Alicia about to the film “Alice in wonderland” (Tim Burton)

  16. Ethan says:

Oh, and I know what its like to be in that position. |
I was in Australia, it was the end of school, first weekend off and we were down in surfers paradise (Gold coast), we managed to get into the clubs and we got pretty drunk. So me and my 3 english mates and my 1 Irish mate all decided to walk home… bad idea. As there was alot of police around that night, so anyway, we were walking and suddenly this Australian guy comes out of nowhere, punches my friend in the face and we all run off.
Where upon the 2 english guys got chased, shot with tasrers and arrested, 1 english dude got a blood nose, the Irish guy, we found drinking a beer in an alleyway and myself who fell over a beach rail next to a group of Hot Dutch tourists having some drinks… lets say it was good night for me! lol

  17. Tomas says:

Actually I never mentioned why the police was so ‘agitated’..we threw the empty bottles onto the roof of the petrol station and apparently some moron called them in as ‘gun fire at the petrol station’… . But i like your ending and by it, you seem to be one very lucky guy. Let us know what you reckon of the flicks before getting back into your training routine.

  18. Ethan says:

What a moron, who mistakes bottles breaking for gun shots? oh man. We kinda had the same thing when me and my little brother put the punisher on with the surround sound up full blast, except no guns and one cop.

And yes I will review the films before I do, but having one day off is considred a break for me lol.
