“Not one less” I did not see it but I am called much the attention, impressive the interpretation of the young actress, will see it. “The society of the dead poets” I very saw of girl not remember, so I have work of doing in house!
About growth films my absolute devotion to director Larry Clark and his films “Kids” (1995) and mainly “Bully” (2001). Clark in that sense is like Gaspar Noé: without censorship. A unknown glance and very little tender of which the cinema shows generally of the children and the childhood to us. Emaciated per moments, it obtains great things, mainly in “Bully”. “Kids” also hits but it does not have a solid script and then all the boldness is lost but in intentions that in a good film 10 points obtained, but I insist profit takings on this film that NO DIRECTOR of cinema in the history of the cinema profit, so only for that reason it is worth the trouble to be seen. Solid and strong film comes to me another, of actor Tim Roth like director “To war zone” (frightening)
Juno mmm… 1 otters I feel, it but it promises but than it finishes being. It is not a “forced comedy” of those films that are in the middle of way, does not finish settling down either like a comedy but like a drama. I have see that was the true intention of the film or rather that was the producer, because although is supposedly “independent” it does not finish defining itself and that is but own of a film with production of it cuts commercial. I prefer all the life the Ellen Page of “Hard candy”, in Juno seems sobreacted, besides that the roll of bad-psicotic girl feels to she better.
I also mention “Virgin Suicides” (1999) of Sofia Coppola. Excellently film and filmed simple. 4 otters. This film shows another aspect of children growing, rather in the adolescence and the climate that obtains goes beyond which it is seen. Soundtrack of “Air” is shining.
“Kids” (3 otters) “Bully” (5 otters)
PS. I cheers me that they have been able to finish the chapter. I saw some rare things but je je not if they are of the video or my head so by the doubts them I reserve me.
Pelicula sencilla y excelentemente filmada. 4 otters.
And “Scent of a Woman” is fantastic! those musical sequences with Alpacino oh God!!, a chill crosses me the skin…
5 otters!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Awesome! These episodes make my day everyday. brilliant.
Growing up is something done early for myself, Iv had a more than rough childhood. I had to look after my little brother since I was like 6, abusive mother, no dad, all that good stuff. haha. But i find that, its not good growing up to fast, as i can take things a little to seriously.
But it gives you a better apprecation for things, and greater wisdom.
The first two films i have not seen, however I have to add them to my massive list of “Must watch and otter” films.
Juno
4 otters
I found was brilliant, it shows the fun and loveable side of a bad situation, such as early pregnancy. As its seen as a major problem in society today. I guess it can also be seen as a way to eliminate the steroetype placed on teenage parents, and to show that they are human beings also, who just made a mistake, everyone makes mistkes.
Superbad
4 otters
like you said, wouldnt make the hall of fame, but was a hillarious film. Great and classic scenes that left me laughing my ass off throughout.
Go ma simi da!
Ethan
I’m a bit older so there is no beating “The Breakfast Club” and “Sixteen Candles”. However, the two I would recommend are:
Peggy Sue Got Married- I like the theme of going back and realizing that your youth and inherent self centeredness warped your whole perception of people and events.
Heathers- dark look at the pressure to conform and fit in with some good acting.
Great show and I always look forward to seeing what you’ll find.
“Edward Scissorhands” of Tim Burton (1990) it is incredible and I believe that it enters the category. It is a luck of “Pinocho” modernist. The eternal child on the eve of becoming a man but who never got to be it.
i like your clip a lot. i have not seen any james dean movie, yet…i know iknow, shame on me!! but as i can see you steadily moved to the more and more interesting movies ending with “world’s greatest dad! which i haven’t seen but definetely will if i get the chance to.
superbad is not teaching you but definetley shows the viewer the “problems” troubled teenagers suffering from an overdose of testosterone are willing to do to finally score, haha!! still have to laugh thinking about special scenes.
i think “13″ needs to be part of this theme! it is not a very famous movie but definetely telling the growing-up-story from a darker point of view.
i agree with juli mentioning “kids”. actually a pretty strong movie wrapped in a cheap outfit.
“the basketball diaries” (1995) telling the story of growing-ups again from the dark side. di caprio playing his part really authentically and as i think his acting in “whats eating gibert grape” and in this movie was the best he has done.
“the blue lagoon” with brooke shields and someone everybody forgot about! actually a bad movie but maybe the author of “juno” got some of his ideas from that movie…nah…maybe not!
@Ibby: Oh, yeah! “the basketball diaries” (1995) It has very interesting things, mainly the puttings of camara and Leonardo Di Caprio excellent! But the roll of Gilbert continues being the best one of its race. If Leonardo Di Caprio had interpreted the roll of Brad Pitt in the brilliant “12 monkeys” of Terry Gilliam oh God! that then film would have been perfect. But Pitt there although I put much care to him is bad actor, the exception is “Seven…” I like much, works better in tortured personages. And David Fincher knows it.
Oh God! I can remember “Tideland” (2005) about “Growing up films” of Terry Gilliam, is really great and the little actress is… amazing! 5 otters for Terry!
Whenever memory that the cinema producers do not want to finance films to Gilliam unemployment not to cry, is a genius, and a sin that do not let it film. Damn cabbage-cutter of meat.
I may or may not be in the majority here, but I would not go back and repeat my teen years for anything. I agree with baxtelf (must be why we’re still married after 20 yrs) about “Heathers” & “Breakfast Club”. I would put “Pump up the Volume” in there as well, yet another dark movie full of teen angst. Christian Slater was good at that when he was younger.
“Rebel Without A Cause” is one of my top 10 movies of all time. Dean was so brilliant and gone far too quickly. I’d recommend anyone who hasn’t seen them to see “Rebel”, “Giant” and “East of Eden”.
“World’s Greatest Dad” looks like it has some real potential. From the trailer, it doesn’t look at all like something that Goldthwaite would have done.
superbad(2 otters)
its all about a teenage getaway movie trying to explore ‘heavenly world’..
Juno(5 otters)
a good movie to count for..its an eye opener for those teenager indulging unprotected sex at an early age..by not being protected and responsible, you might face the consequences..
dead poet society(5 otters)
its a lesson for us to learned that ‘never choose a path for someone whose interest is different from yours’..
words of wisdom:Life’s is a journey not a destination..
@ethan: its a good thing you experienced all those hardship in life coz its makes you a better person..and for sure you wont let that to happen to your next generation..
@dantheman777 and @baxtelf: awesome! over 20 years! that’s inspiring, not so much your movies though…hahaha…I am just joking. Haven’t seen some of them (Heathers, Pump up the volume), I suggest to trust these two and check out the flicks.
