Movies For The Ear (part 2) – Episode 30
September 21st, 2009
In the second part of his ongoing “Movies for the Ear” series on film music, Tomas takes a look at a few Heroic movie scores…
Featuring the classic Batman Score (Dark Knight) by Hans Zimmer & James Newton Howard, the song Skorpinok, Steve Jablonski’s Music for the Transformers …
Given that he just got out of hospital, somewhat of a heroic episode in itself! Wish him well…

Aaaah classic Tomas, love it.
Good to hear you’re on the mend too. I heard the distress signal to the north of the Island, howling through the wind.
Perfect to have another Episode on scores, can’t get enough of these. I’m going to definitely pop in a request for the third part.
I don’t have nearly enough soundtracks, I only tend to buy snippets from iTunes(*lightning strike*) or digitally ’sample’ it from Simon Bates’ Classic FM show on Sundays. Which by the way is a great place to discover some fine scores.
Heh, I’ve had those moments when listening to the music. Even in a Supermarket, certain music makes anything dramatic. “Coke….or Diet Coke” *Gladiator music kicks in*
Definitely remember being Zimmerfied watching ‘The Dark Knight’. Such power in his work.
I caught a glimpse of Zimmer ‘jammin’ in his studio with musicians for the score to Black Hawk Down.
Interesting style of work and not what I expected at all.
Keep them comin Tomas, glad to hear you’re on the mend. What was your first meal after you ‘got out’?
Cheers Michael! Well, they cut open my belly so I am still waiting for the moment to be able to feast but you will be the first to know.
Cripes.
And on International “Talk like a Pirate Day” of all days(!)
Hoping you have a safe return to form.
And for comic value, a quick reference to the ‘Alien’ chestbuster scene for the next episode
U know how it goes, pirate speaking days, tourists all over the island bumping into palms because they wear these stupid plastic eye patches…tried to drown them out with bottles
of rum and before you know this alien bird shows up and one thing leads to another…without the surgery there would be nothing left of me to show than the Alien chest burst scene. Good thing, I taught the otters how to do synchronized swim and form the international sign for Oriental down: two broken chopsticks forming a cross.
Music is generally superb, the incidental music of this type of films of mammoth productions is like infallible although the film in if he is mediocre. “Dark night” throughout has holes, safe by the personage of Two Phases, I can dare to catalogue the film like a true sweepings, I do not understand as Christopher Nolan of “Memento” could do this, I believe that everything is transformed to the lack of passion, when without sense, when blinding by the money, when being sold to the best postor. I don’t tolerate it, I do not tolerate it neither in the art nor in the life, for that reason perhaps this condemned to eternally walk single like the personage of “Speed me towards death”.
I am going to sound superfluous I feel and it, but “DAS parfum” has best soundtrack than it listens in my life. The perfection shaped in music. That man definitively must leave the direction and dedicate itself to compose… by another one sountrack as “Das parfum” I give at this same moment my life. Fatally wonderful.

Listening something like this, close your eyes and you ask yourself: What but I can ask to him to the life? Gorgeous, to live the senses to the end of that music treats, that is the cinema, that is the life.

RESPEC’ to you, sir! Admirable dedication! Once news of this spreads, people will flood to Showloon from across the lands to witness (or listen to) similar feats. Which means you might have to do it again.
And I’m with Michael on this; I really like these Showloon Radio eps too.
Hans Zimmer is great for epic action scores. Always manages to rumble your seat a bit with those strings. The thing about Zimmer’s scores is how recognisably his they are. His Pirates score is very different to the Dark Knight one, but there’s a lot of the same stuff going on.
The best heroic pieces are played during those ads for high-tech toothbrushes with the very serious, attractive people marching around in white labcoats and acting like they just discovered a Dentists’ Excalibur or something. Or the ads for razors. THE ULTIMATE DEATH-DEFYING CLOSEST SHAVE.
Oh, get well soon…
Oh, get well soon… i can see your didacated enough, lying in your bed with needle in your hand it’s such a hardwork… thank you…
Only reason to be this much dedicate is the fact that I want to believe that you guys like to watch the eps, so it needs to be delivered. This place is all about look and touch….(this sounds somehow strange..hmmm).
@Tomas: hmmmm ja ja remember this is the showloon family
Are you drunk Tomas? maybe to much drugs in the hospital and me editing still oh Jesus ja ja everything for the arte you know it.
Episode 31?
ART! Oh better to go sleep…
I want the interview with the yellow bag…
Change and outside.
In the moon dancing with masks…
I don`t want to die slowly… I’m gonna fly tara ta… ta…
Before I proceed onwards, I feel like Tomas is very odd and definitely very strange… It’s so sad to thinkthat he’s doubting us and not believing our effort to watch the Showloon Tv… To be perfectly honest, it’s not that i don’t like the episode but it’s more of the episode ‘didn’t like me’ so i didn’t deliver any comment for that matter… I wish i didn’t say anything( my remarks obove) to come up your commenting like that…
Showloon Tv for me( i deal it now i don’t know the future)is like a routine that when i open my computer i log in first in SHOWLOONTV…
Totally agree @athenayesha.
I don’t tend to have a video blog I check in on too often, but Tomas seems a very cool guy, always on the edge of good music and film releases.
T comes across very well, very funny, personable and enthusiastic, and by the end of the video, there’s a feel-good factor…..
Always try catch the eps as soon as they appear.
I mean, totally agree with your last line
@athenayesha: I totally agree that I am very odd and strange and I can feel my Grandmother nodding in agreement all the way in Korea
@Michael: you forgot to write about my stunning looks. I will only pay you half on what was agreed on
The phrase ‘true beauty’ is thrown around a lot these days……
Hi Tomas, great to hear your voice, I hope you are getting better..considering that you must need rest this was a great fighting spirit episode, thank you x
I say we petition that mysterious Australian chap we all know and love to make a cameo half way through the next episode.

H’Yar!
@michael: who’s that mysterious australian cahp? sorry to ask,i’m just purely innocent….
