What Everybody Ought to Know About 2009s Summer Action Blockbusters – Episode 31

October 16th, 2009

Tomas is back from his days as a patient and first thing he does is extreme-judging five of the most hyped action films of this year’s summer blockbuster season. It’s either good or bad but nothing in between. Movies include: Wolverine, Terminator Salvation, Star Trek, Transformers 2 and G.I. Joe

Wow first to comment. I liked Wolverine mainly because Hugh Jackman was frequently undressed. :) Star Trek was really very good and well cast. I was smart enough to not see Terminator because I knew Christian Bale would be mumbling his way through it. G.I Joe could have been better if someone else had been cast as the main character. Channing Tatum cannot act and sometimes it is not enough to look good.

Glad to see you back Tomas!

  2. This morning speak with athenesysha about Showloon…

I have a problem with this episode I don`t like it ja ja is the true, happen sometimes no?
Terminator Salvation (1 otter) only like it the soundtrack of Alice in Chains that surprise when did see it that movie in the cinema and… the actor… I can`t remember his name… oh… this actor… whetever, the best of the movie or the only good is his personage human/terminator. Cliche movies for the summer…

I hate so much Block…b… too.
A movie in the plastic box is so terrible for the only reason od to be a plastic box in the plastic shop, is like… come go to the shopping.
The cinema is this days is this! a great shop with plastics things without sense.

    Where is the cinema sense?
    Why the cinema is dead?
Rock is dead like the music, is true, but the cinema too.
    Is so sad.
We can alive people!! We have make art or everybody will be die.

  3. @Tomas: Glad to see :)
Drink a “matecito” and your soul it returns to your body.
    @Atheneshya: A kiss girl!!

  4. Tomas says:

@baxtelf and @ juli: Thanks for checking out the new episode so quickly!! Especially listening to me ranting almost for 10minutes without any clips can’t be rated highly enough :)

  5. CJ says:

Welcome back, man. Really enjoyed this episode. I’ve only seen two of these films, but I couldn’t agree more.

I think one of the problems with Wolverine is that they decided to go back to the character who had pretty much been the focus of the main trilogy anyway, and on top of that they basically took the backstory of the second one, which had already been dealt with, and crammed in a load of half-baked characters where there were really no gaps to put them. There was absolutely nothing to gain from it. No novelty, no tension, no character development (the reverse, in fact, like you said in the vid), no interesting story.

And it was stuff like that unbelievably friendly and helpful old couple who were put in there just to show how bad the bad guys were by having them shockingly killed off. Needless, hamfisted stuff that shows either a lack of writing ability or a lack of effort.

Great news! They’ve announced a whole series of these ‘Origin’ stories, for characters even less worthwhile than Wolverine.

Terminator…did not do Christian Bale any favours. Two hours of stupid.

Star Trek has been known to make my eyes bleed with boredom, so a slight prejudice has stopped me from seeing the new film, even though it’s a remake. One of these days I might check it out.

  6. Tomas says:

Cheers CJsta! Smart man to just watch 2 out of those 5 movies.

  7. AA says:

@tomas: hey dude good to see you, is this for real? you’ve been into a long haitus vacation, good for you then… anyway, we’re glad your back…
    @juli: hi juli, thanks girl…

for all those movie, i only watched J I Joe… the movie not so bad maybe i expected so much more adrenaline .. i’l give 3 otters and the otters goes to lee byung hun…

  8. ibby says:

HOHOOOOO!!! mr showloon is back to feed the showloonatics with his wisdom and opinion!! i had a constant grin on my face watching this episode. first cause it was good to see you back on the sofa, then i saw the itch in you to be in front of the camera again.

now…i watched all of the movies except for g.i. joe!! and yes tomas, you were the only one in the whole wide world that had any expectations on that movie, even though it was low ones.

i watched wolverine and i was entertained by the movie. but not more. the stories about his past were very lame. i would’ve wished that the movie told a lot of the past and ended with him being filled up with adamantium…that would have been great….but i have no money nor the power to influence film industry…

terminator just did not make any sense at all. from the first minute on the movie was bad!! 100 men go in the only survivor is o’connor, he can infiltrate the HQ of the terminators by capturing one of the motorbike terminators…??? he fist fights with terminators??? i thought terminators are killing machines…they don’t throw you around and see how far you fly…they are supposed to just kill you! and a human/terminator (thanks juli for the description) gives his heart to o’connor???hahaha WTF??!!!!
    i mean, WTF????!!!!

transformers: the first one was bad already, the only reason i went to this movie is megan! and she was totally worth it!! i totally disagree with you tomas and i think itis rather disrespectful how you talk about her! her voice is perfect, her acting perfect, her looks perfect, seeing her running priceless!!! leaning ober the motorbike to airbrush a sign on it…just fabulous! and i don’t wanna hear anything about her being over rated!! she is a goddess!!

now to the movie itself! like i said, the first one was bad already! i knew the second one will be bad again, the special effects itself were great and well done! action action action from the first second! but explosions and shootouts can’t make a nmovie! and the lame jokes and stupid characters were for the little kids under 12! somehow you need to earn back the money you totally wasted in that stupid movie! so they tried to address as many group of ages possible. plus, the whole movie is a commercial! so i guess the movie was a moneymaker!
only megan was worth her money! just want to point that out…

star trek!! i am not a fan although i know a lot about the characters and different races that exist, the wars friendship and all.
i had no expectations whenever i went to watch it. and i really liked it. and i think that everybody will agree while watching it. i even went to that movie with a total star trek crack!! and he liked it too! so i guess the movie is well done:)!
and as you already mentioned tomas! a smart move they made to be able to make all the following movies in its own story!!

wow!! glad that i could write all this and share my feelings and emotions! i love you guys!! i am a true showloonatic!!!

  9. JJ says:

    Good to be back INNIT!
Love your punt on Wolverine… ‘You just dont care anymore!’ am so glad i didnt watch it!

and then i will have to agree with Ibby on Transformers… youve got Megan in a film… no need for anything else!

  10. AA says:

yeah ,everybody’s saying startrek is quite good… but im not fan of sci fi movie…so i didnt watch it..

  14. Michael says:

Superb to have the Showloon return. Had a brief look at this on Saturday morn with a five year old doing circles around me computer chair. Long story.

Should make for good lunchtime entertainment. Welcome back Tomas!

  15. @AA: YEAH BABY JA JA
    GOOD MORNING SHOWLOONATICS!!
    @TOMAS: HI, I LET YOU A MATECITO IN SHOWLOON’S FACEBOOK PAGE :)
EVERY MORNING AFTER A NEW EPISODE WE WILL BE A DRINK A MATECITO OR WE DIE. NO NO JA JA

  16. Michael says:

    Welcome back, Tomas…….and he’s angry – superb! :)

    Super enjoyed this one.
Had a lot of time myself in the past 2 or 3 years, where I’ve looked back and thought about the time I’ve spent. Did I use it well enough…? Could I have done things better or quicker….?

Summer blockbusters always tend to pander to this new breed of fan-boy. Half the time the effort put into the trailers, is about 20 times that of the script. Full of CGI, zilcho storyline and in some cases, Massive Lips(!)

Hah, I was convinced there was a part in Terminator where Bale got a lisp. Think it was when he was talking to the president. I was inches from laughter overload. “But, Mischter Preschidents…”

Heh, love it Juli, we’re Showloonatics!

  17. Michael says:

I just remembered how relentless Transformers 2 was…constant action with no reason at all.

It’s an odd way of the world that people will go in their droves to see these dire films, seduced by the graphics, the trailer, the stars and the non-stop hype.

  18. AA says:

@michael: have you watch the american pshycho?.. he does talking like that.. as i can see hes having a hard time talking.. out of 5 otters i gave 2 otters… but he has a nice body and good acting also… but when he talks, minus points…

  19. Chris says:

Nice look back at the summer Tom, I’ve only seen Star Trek and enjoyed it a lot. I’ll probably see all others in the future but only if someone else happens to have it.

I have to agree with you about not buying into badly made films. It really is disheartening when the studios continue to pump out nonsense which gets lapped up by idiots with no sense! I went to see Zombieland at the cinema last week. I was quite enjoyable, the whole middle section with Bill Murray could have been cut out though in my opinion. I happened to be sitting next to three young guys (17/18yrs) who loved all the trailers for the upcoming nonsense looking films, and who spent the duration of Zombieland squealing like idiots every time the girl from Superbad was on screen. They nearly exploded every time her and the guy nearly kissed. Unfortunately guys like this are funding the production of films like Terminator salvation and GI Joe. Throw a few explosions around the screen and they’re hooked!

Although on the other side of the coin, I will happily sit through 40 minutes of nonsense on any Star Trek tv series for 5 minutes of exploding spaceships so I guess I’m partly to blame aswell! :D

Anyway, happy viewing once again. Thanks Tomas.

  20. Tomas says:

@Chris: We’re all to blame. Especially me since I watched them all! Think it’s a cool point of view by yourself to mention that we all chose our ‘nonsense’ and it’s just personal taste. Maybe that’s the whole point, if they manage to make you engage and like the characters then you’ll go through a lot of non-sense…at least i would.
