  1. In a beginning I hate a Ben Stiller because is equal to my unclue ja ja, lie, not for that reason. The films of “parody” they do not deserve nor to be called films. Except those of ” Scary movie” and all that accumulated sweepings class badly done. Returning to Ben Stiller I remove the hat, to demonstrated not only to be an excellent actor of comedy if one of the best directors in that roll. He is an actor who truly knows of direction. And ” Naked Gun” a classic one of classic.

And I am going to make a confession, I never like Matrix, is a copy of another previous film “Dark City” of Alex Proyas (better movie)

  2. CJ says:

The Matrix is not a copy of Dark City. Not only did Dark City come out only the year before, by which time the script of the Matrix had already been written, but I think they’re very different anyway. They did re-use some of the set of Dark City for monetary reasons, but I’d say that the noir-ish setting and a very broad ‘things are not what they seem’ theme are about the only things that are the similar, and neither are original for that.

If you’re going to say that The Matrix is a copy of anything, you want to be looking at the likes of Ghost in the Shell, Neuromancer, Akira, the Invisibles, Plato’s Republic or the New Testament. It draws from so many things that I just don’t think it’s possible to criticise it in a way that reduces it to being a copy of any one film or book or comic. You might still accuse it of a lack of originality, but for me it’s a better-than-the-sum-of-its-parts deal. I could go into more detail on that, but for the sake of the Showloon readership I won’t.

Love them or hate them, though, The Matrix films will always be a goldmine for parody. Especially the sequels, where all this stuff just doesn’t come together quite so well. The MTV one is awesome.

Agreed that Tropic Thunder is hilarious. For some reason, though, I still haven’t seen much Monty Python.

Also recommended: Kung Fu Hustle (trailer: http://bit.ly/1a1l2Q).

(Geek trivia: the guy playing Darth Vader in that Star Wars parody, Peter Serafinowicz, voiced the actual Darth Maul in…whatever episode he was in.)

  3. You do not worry CJ non comment more. Anyway nobody read which I write.
Matrix is a copy of Dark City I maintain, it
    Good Bye.

  4. CJ says:

Well, if I can’t persuade you then I’ll say no more. Obviously I do read what you write, though, or I wouldn’t have responded. :P

  5. Tomas says:

@Juli and CJ: I want to see Dark City now. Very inspiring discussion!

  6. CJ says:

Juli, I hope it didn’t sound like I was ranting at you for not liking the Matrix or anything like that. You’re free to hate it! I just think it’s unlikely that it was a copy of Dark City, that’s all. You are also free to ignore me.

  7. Is okey CJ, I feel the problem I am that I am very sensible with the world and I collapse before the first wind. “Dark city” it seems to me an honest film but, that is everything, really.

  8. Tomas says:

Nobody collapses from nothing on my watch! ;)

  9. Dan says:

The 2 Python clips are some of the best stuff on film. I’ve watched both of those countless times and still enjoy them. The Pink Panther scene is priceless. I haven’t seen the Steve Martin remakes, mainly because I have alway though Peter Sellers was so brilliant in those. I don’t want to taint the memories with a cheap imitation.

  10. Tomas says:

That’s the pure definition of a classic!

  11. “Office Space” of Mike Judge is an excellent film, it is not of parody but is a deep and shining comedy.

  12. Tomas says:

Absolutely but I am saving it for another episode :)

  13. Pleaseeee!!!!!!!!!!

  14. pedro says:
